1 Lesson I Learned From Someone Who’s Done 40 years of Leadership Assessments




Todays assessments don’t effectively measure a leaders ability to build and lead effective teams:


👉 Mental ability Tests: How smart they are? What kind of bandwidth they have?

👉 Background: Resumes, LinkedIn profiles, work history and, education.

 👉 Business Simulations: Fictitious meeting with a direct report

👉 Personality and Work Values: What makes them tick?

👉 360 Degree Feedback: To find out how others see them


These methods haven’t evolved much in the last 40-50 years. 🤔 


Even newer techniques like Gamification still measure the same traits 💯 


If the prediction for leadership effectiveness is:

Multiple R of about .5


It means that these methods account for only 25% of the variance. 😎 


This leaves 75% unexplained and unaccounted for 😅
